A message from the SAD 61 Health Team
The Lake Region School Health offices are available for the health and safety of your child. We work as part of a team to care for children with chronic medical conditions as well as provide care to those students who become sick or injured while at school.

In order for the nursing staff to provide the best care for your child, please be sure that the school health office has the most up to date medical information including changes in medications and current emergency contact information.

  • Concussion
    A Concussion or Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI) is caused by an impact to the head resulting in mild to severe injury. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: headache, nausea, dizziness, confusion or difficulty concentrating. If your child reports any of these symptoms after sustaining impact to the head, please seek medical attention.

  • Illness Protocol - When To Keep Your Child Home
    In general, if your child does not feel well enough to participate in usual school activities, they should be kept home.

    Fever/Flu Symptoms: Temperature of 100 degrees or higher, body aches with cough and/or sore throat. Students should not attend school until they have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine.

    Vomiting and/or Diarrhea: Students should stay home and not return to school until symptom free for 24 hours.

    Strep Throat: Students may not come to school until they have been treated with antibiotics for 24 hours and are fever free.

    Any specific health questions can be directed to the nurse at your school.
  • Maine Immunization Guidelines - Kindergarten Screening
    A minimum of:

    5 DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, & Pertussis) 4 DTP if 4th is given on or after 4th birthday

    4 Polio (if 4 doses given before 4th birthday, an additional dose of age appropriate IPV should be given on or after the 4th birthday)

    2 MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)

    1 Varicella (chicken pox) or documented history of disease

    Each immunization entry must include:
    Vaccine type, date administered and the name of the provider

    If you choose to not vaccinate your child you must complete an Immunization Exemption Form. Please contact the nurse at your child's school for more information.
